In Reading Words, children build on their early skills to grow as confident, fluent readers. With a focus on reading for meaning, they develop the ability to independently read, comprehend, and share their understanding of stories and texts.

 

Learning Goals:

• Blend 3- to 5-letter words with accuracy

• Read simple sentences independently, with growing fluency

• Recognize an expanding set of sight words

• Apply phonics strategies to decode new words

• Comprehend and discuss what they read by answering simple questions

• Identify the beginning, middle, and end of a short story

• Write simple sentences with proper spacing, punctuation, and spelling

 

Children’s Literacy Support Program

 

Our Growing Readers program is a dynamic, two-level literacy support journey designed to give young children, ages 4 and up, a strong foundation in literacy and school readiness. From mastering the alphabet in Level 1 to reading fluently with comprehension in Level 2, each step aligns with Ontario’s TVDSB expectations. By fostering a love for reading early on, we help children build the confidence and skills they need to succeed in school and beyond.
