In Building Words, we lay the groundwork for early literacy by guiding children through their first encounters with letters and sounds. They begin recognizing letters, blending them into simple words, and writing their first letters and numbers—all building confidence as they prepare for kindergarten success.

 

Learning Goals:

• Blend 3- to 5-letter words with accuracy

• Identify all alphabet letters and confidently produce their sounds

• Blend sounds to read simple three-letter words

• Write both uppercase and lowercase letters

• Understand basic print concepts (e.g., reading left to right, words carrying meaning)

• Recognize key sight words

• Write numbers from 0 to 10 and solve basic addition and subtraction within 10

• Engage in shared reading activities with peers or adults

Children’s Literacy Support Program

 

Our Growing Readers program is a dynamic, two-level literacy support journey designed to give young children, ages 4 and up, a strong foundation in literacy and school readiness. From mastering the alphabet in Level 1 to reading fluently with comprehension in Level 2, each step aligns with Ontario’s TVDSB expectations. By fostering a love for reading early on, we help children build the confidence and skills they need to succeed in school and beyond.
